INTEGRITY Systems Overload

Systems Overload,
a cult classic since it's original release on Victory records from 1995 , now has undergone the reissue scheme of Organized Crime Records. After debut EP In Contrast Of Sin and Those Who Fear Tomorrow it was time for the next runner up. Systems Overload has been pressed once more for the coven to enjoy and to educate those who haven't heard the news of the end of the world yet.

System Overload MMXII
Organized Crime Records started reissueing classic INTEGRITY albums a while ago and has now chosen to follow that path further by doing almost the entire back catalogue. Number three in line is Systems Overload, one of the albums that defines INTEGRITY and displays their talent and diversity even more than their earlier work.

Magic of the flash camera reveals the arcane tracks
Most of you freaks already know this album word by word so i won't even bother to discus tracks.
If you haven't already heard it then i can only recommend you to get out of that cave you been living in,
purchase this record and play it as loud as bearable. It holds all the songs that will make you clench your fist and throw it in the air, shout at the walls or the person closest near you. I'm talking epic tracks such as
Systems Overload, Jimson Isolation, Grace Of The Unholy,... to much too mention.

Dwid goes back to the nineties
Clint at Organized Crime Records has gone all the way once again by releasing three versions of this rerelease. Next to the possibility to order a package deal containing the 7" by DIE HARD alongside the INTEGRITY release and/or a T-shirt by one of the forementioned bands, there was room for three different colorways of vinyl.
A limited run of 225 white vinyls, 800 red vinyls and 320 clear with black swirls was placed on the world wide market known as the internet for us all to devour. The clear with black swirls even comes with a limited cover.

crappy picture of the poster
A rerissue mostly means all the same old songs brought to you in a fresh printed and pressed version of the original cover and vinyl. Not with OCR, for this release the centerpiece still remains the songs on this slab of vinyl, but with a new endmix of the album, since the original mix wasn't the best according to Aaron Melnick who tells the story of why and how in the added insert. On the other side of the insert we find a lyricsheet and an additional poster is added too, on one side depicting a picture of Dwid and the album cover for promotional purposes, the other side being an old styled poster showing a tale of the Armenian persecution. Also included is a digital download card to redeem those bits and bytes for free.

Armenian Persecution, not just a track
The album artwork has been redone, it still holds the same imagery, just a bit different than we're used to.
The lack farnish printing has been used again to print the tracks on the backcover, very nice and aesthetic but hard to read in low light conditions. But those who own this album don't need tracklistings since they know this album through and through.

My copy has a small black swirl, dirt or transitional?
Systems Overload deserves a place in your collection, if it isn't there yet, then get it, if it is, an additional copy
of this magnificent album never hurts, so get it now. Get it here!

Integrity skull

I'm already looking forward to future reissues such as Humanity Is The Devil and Seasons In The Seize Of Days who are rumored to appear soon on OCR. Keep your eye out on them and sleep with one eye open
cause this record may change your live.

DRAWERS are a french band that has been playing their mixture of heavy sludge with stoner metal since 2006. Previous releases date back to 2009 with the EP This Is Oil and last years full album All Is One.
Slow heavy riffs are the base of their side to this split released through Moodisorder productions, hailing from France Order here. . Tears Never Come Alone is a track for all you afficiandos of bands such as
MASTODON, CROWBAR and BARONESS. A very nice opener of this limited split 7".

HANGMAN'S CHAIR needs no introduction anymore if you read my previous post on their latest release Hope/Dope/Rope, a cult classic already in my opinion. Previous post here.
HANGMAN'S CHAIR  part of this split features the track I Am The Problem, another display of applying the french touch to their style of playing loud sludge doom metal ... A perfect soundtrack that matches the split's macabre artwork and overall feeling.

Hangman's Chair

As said before this release came in april 2012 through Moodisorder Productions, a fresh french label
that ships fast and friendly, even got a thank you not in my 7" mailer. This release comes on clear red vinyl and is limited to 260 pieces. So get yours before it falls into the hands of some other nut.

Tears Never Come Alone

If you feel the need to take it a bit slower than the normal adreline driven hardcore then this split can offer a slower approach to heavy music. Check out both bands their bandcamp here, DRAWERS and HANGMAN'S CHAIR, and support these independent bands that developed their own style of hardcore influenced music.

Way before bands like Rise AboveProfound, Manliftingbanner there was a band from The Netherlands called LÄRM. They had a very distinct stance towards phenomena in society. They seem to me a very conscious bunch of punkers that founded the European Straight-Edge from 1982 on to 1988.

They were broadly known by punks but also were recognized by the sprawling hardcore punk community as a real Straight-Edge band. What struck me the most is their societal awareness on local and global scale when I read the lyrics. They criticize almost every aspect of 80's Western society. It feels like a mirror way back in time.

The lyrical content is really exhaustive, dealing with (almost?) every basis-subject that European Hardcore will deal with after them. I'm very surprised about the completeness of their output for sure, had never expected that. So, I assume that they also appealed to many people and created some kind of ground or foundation of subjects for later straight-edge, political, vegan, etc. -bands to follow.

Concretely the lyrics deal with:
  • Ecological problems caused by chemical industry and the apocalyptic visions triggered by witnessing all this.
Chemical suicide, we all gonna die.
  • The rise of global politics, like the fact that according to them in the 80's Europe's a puppet on USA's string. And that Russia is the bigger aggressor. And the questions about what will evolve out of this.
  • Hatred against a fascist right-wing movement called O.S.L.
  • The troubles in South-Africa, the white ruling the black or the minority ruling the majority
    Something is wrong in South-Africa
Something must be done in South-Africa
  • About the fact that punk ain't shocking anymore and that they start to act like hippies in hardcore clothes!
Punk ideas are thrown out the door.
They're just a bunch of hippies in their hardcore clothes.
  • Also a song about pogo with no fights and no violence, just fun.
  • That they want to react upon the lies spread by the greater in society, the youth-revolt is on it's way.
  • Local politics or social problems caused with the "Haagse Maffia" (CDA and VVD) are also discussed.
  • The bleak vision of their future; globalisation-problems like world-crisis that will grow, word-conflict that will grow. Again an apocalyptic view when they think about all that.
We ain't got no future, the end is here...
  • About the fact that chemical warfare (Napalm bombs, radiation green) destroys not only on this instance but for many generations to come...
    Don't wanna pay their debts!
Similar subject about the use of weapons of mass-destruction.
Demand a future, ban the bomb!
  • Surprisingly already about the animal-abuse in vivisection-laboratories.
  • A the kids will have their say mentality
You're to old to know your problems
  • Psychological or philosophical lyrics also...
Thoughts are playing a game with me
It's not what it seems to be
  • Criticism on TV spots
TV spots, TV spots, visual crap
TV spots, TV spots, make you buy crap
  • Humanities way to rather stay entertained and ignorant instead of knowing the truth about the world problems.
  • Shockingly about suicide also
  • About drunk people
Lying drunk on the floor, you think that's hardcore?
  • A few emotional songs too
  • The cold war between Russia and USA
  • Non-conformity and the limits of non-conformity.
The truth is really sad, in your non-conformity, you're so conform.
  • One night stands and pornography leading merely to superficial satisfaction and leading to no feelings and love at all.
  • A fun song about everybody going metal called Metal Attitude Sucks (M.A.S.) and their view about it!
  • Sadism of nuclear weapons and the stupid competition between countries for the best of those weapons.
  • Surprisingly about broken homes also, they call it "Home broken home"...
  • fascism, they accuse fascists of megalomania
  • the grudges they hold or pity they have for junkies
Once drugs was fun, now it's not
  • The grudges they hold against bosses of factories
  • question they have about friends getting settled and not sharing those same ideals anymore
We had the same ideals. Friends for a lifetime?
  • Things that people have no answers about in life and that school doesn't educate in also
what if you're depressed, what if your father starts to cry, what if they beat you up and you don't know why
  • The troubled mind they have and the fact that they can't be happy while everybody else is and while witnessing famine, torture, fascism, corruption, armsrace, vivisection, poverty, oppression.... And that they are called too negative when they feel that way about all that.
  • A fun text about record-labels asking more than other people for stuff...
Does (your) fame define your price?
  • Beer drinkers
Having fun is your only definition of punk
Forget the problems, let's get drunk
    You don't belong here
Go drown in your own beer
  • Unity also:
Unity is a word so misunderstood
Most of the time it has done us no good
You and your friends are maybe one
But I don't call that real unity
  • The fact that animals have feelings too
  • the positive effects of starting something new of taking initiative
    Use your head!!
  • Rhetorical questions about telling someone the truth or calling it comfortably a lie...
  • Smog, another product of our welfare
  • the fact that violence sucks

All this rebellion and criticism seems very punk indeed. But while many punks were into drugs, these guys laid the foundation and wrote the first Straight-Edge songs on European soil. In songs like "Drunk Freak" and "Up To You" they express that growing concern. But most of all, they are aware of the effects all those political flaws, environmental problems, sociological troubles upon themselves. The complexity of modern life and the failure of the traditional punk to revolt as a movement against it. Leads them into a new and more individualistic philosophy of being straight-edge individual.

hangman's chair hope dope rope lp vinyl
Vive La France
These are the keywords that summarise the latest release of the misantropic dopefiends from Paris, France.
Hope/Dope/Rope is the third full album by HANGMAN'S CHAIR and comes only two years after the previous released album Leaving Paris.
But in those two years some line-up changes took place which led to the new era and sound of these parisians. Armed with a new masterpiece they give you an insight on some of Paris most grimiest alleys, they're combination of stoner / doom takes you on a trip of lunacy and maniacs.

HANGMAN'S CHAIR started in 2005 in Paris and features members hailing from influential bands such as ES LA GUERILLA, L'ESPRIT DU CLAN and ARKANGEL. In 2007 the first split with Eibon and the first album Lament For The Addicts was released and exposed the rough sound of these parisians to the world. Follow up Leaving Paris saw the light in 2010, also the year they lost an important member of the band, RIP Sid-Ahmed. But 2012 is the year HANGMAN'S CHAIR returns with a new vocalist and a new approach. Even more slowed down, heavy, down tuned guitars and brilliant song composing skills led to this masterpiece Hope/Dope/Rope.

Bleu / Blanc / Rouge
The album has been released through the french grindcore label Bones Brigade Records, run by Nico Bones. Available as a limited edition colored vinyl, a gatefold cover containing the album on CD and a limited 100 pieces of purple vinyl are roaming the streets as we speak. A black edition is also available, but i do not have knowledge of pressing numbers yet.

Printed sleeve
With remaining members Mehdi ( ARKANGEL) and Julien Chanut (ARKANGEL), they attracted new blood in the likes of Clément Hanvic (L'ESPRIT DU CLAN) on bass and new vocalist Cedric Toufouti (INHATRED) who helped out in the development of HANGMAN'S CHAIR into an epic band. Slow, agonizing down tuned guitars scream out all through this release, guided by sound excerpts from Joe Coleman ( 'shocking' american artist-performer ) this album is one hell of a trip through the deepest sewers of human life.

Dedicated to Sid-Ahmed, RIP
HANGMAN'S CHAIR have a split 7" released in 2012 aswell with DRAWERS, still available through
Mooddisorder. Limited on clear red vinyl, only 260 made.

The artwork of this release is amazing too, simple drawings depicting a very french atmosphere,
from the darkest, deepest slums of Paris, misantropic creatures representing Hope, Dope and Rope,
showing their brutal reality to all.

or watch the trailer featuring some words by apocalyptic prophet Joe Coleman,
a true performer and artiste. Have a  look at his paintings here.

Hope/Dope/Rope is a masterpiece and a must have for all you fans of LOT, ARKANGEL, Holy Terror, and other apocalyptic dark arcane sounds.
